What can smart wall switches do?

In a modern home, the classic wall switch becomes a true all-rounder. You can set brightness levels precisely, activate lighting scenes, and create time schedules. With smart Gira controls, your lighting adapts to your daily routine. The best part: blinds, heating, and other components can also be managed via smart switches. And it goes far beyond simply switching things on or off. Here are a few examples of what smart switches can offer:

  • Time schedules and automation: Create schedules that switch your lights on or off at set times. This is ideal for making your home look lived in when you are away, and for reducing energy consumption.

  • Scenes and routines: Set up scenes that combine multiple actions into a single command, such as creating the perfect lighting for a film night.

  • Energy monitoring: Some models include energy-monitoring features, giving you insights into how much electricity your lighting uses and where you can save.

  • Combined control: In addition to lighting, they can also be linked to other smart devices. Depending on your system and setup, this allows you to control elements such as fans, heating, or air conditioning.

The Gira System 3000 touch top unit

Within the Gira System 3000, the touch top unit makes lighting control especially intuitive. It allows to switch without a traditional switch, using a clean, touch-sensitive surface instead. The touch top unit combines classic on/off control with a practical dimming function. This means you can switch lights and blinds on or off with a brief tap and adjust brightness with a simple swipe of your finger.

Gira pushbutton sensors for KNX

The Gira pushbutton sensor 4.95 and the Gira pushbutton sensor 4.55 (shown in the image) are designed specifically for KNX systems and are available with two, four, six, or eight freely assignable buttons. With them, you can control a wide range of functions in your home, such as lighting, blinds, or your music system – all with a simple press of a button.

Each pushbutton sensor also features an integrated temperature and humidity sensor, as well as a connection for an external probe, for example for your underfloor heating.

Gira pushbuttons for One and KNX

At first glance, our pushbutton for Gira One and KNX looks just like a conventional light switch. In reality, it can do far more – for example, adjust light colour, brightness, and colour temperature, or measure the room temperature. This allows you to control your Smart Home system directly via the pushbutton while enhancing both comfort and energy efficiency in your home.

The Gira G1 is a central control unit for Smart Homes, offering comprehensive control over a wide range of functions. Its intuitive and user-friendly interface allows you to manage lighting, blinds, room temperature, media, and more, creating a personalised and comfortable living environment.

Why are smart switches useful, even if I use app or voice control?

  • Accessibility: Not everyone in the household wants to, or can, use a smartphone or give voice commands at all times always give voice commands. Smart switches offer an instantly recognisable, physical way to control lighting and other functions. This makes them intuitive for guests, for people without access to smart devices, or for anyone who is not familiar with voice assistants.

  • Safety and emergencies: In an emergency or whenever safety is a concern, being able to reach a physical switch immediately can be crucial. You do not need to unlock a device or wait for voice recognition to respond.

  • Habit and preference: Some people simply prefer the tactile feedback of a physical switch. It provides a direct and familiar interaction with your environment, especially in frequently used spaces or during everyday routines.

  • Extension of Smart Home scenarios: Smart switches can be programmed to do more than control lights. They can trigger scenes or routines that go far beyond the capabilities of a conventional switch. In this way, they offer a physical interface for complex actions that would otherwise only be accessible digitally.
