From the view outside the window to light switches on the wall, it’s the attention to detail that turns an overnight stay into an unforgettable memory. To give you some inspiration for the next trip, let’s take a look at seven remarkable locations all over Europe.

Punta de Mar: a floating retreat for design lovers

With the Punta de Mar project, architecture firm Mano de Santo and the KMZero Open Innovation Hub have created an innovative concept for sustainable experience tourism: a floating pavilion that offers guests an exclusive escape at sea. The prototype in Spain spans 74 square metres across two levels.

The architecture embraces large glass facades that fill the interior with natural light and create a direct connection to the surroundings. High-quality materials and minimalist design deliver not only comfort, but also a sense of tranquillity. Among the premium technical features onboard is modern technology by Gira.

With the smart Gira G1 control unit, guests intuitively manage lighting, climate and music via the high-resolution multitouch display. They can also use an app to control all functions – offering an even greater level of comfort. The sleek and timeless aesthetics of the Gira E2 design line blend seamlessly into the minimalist interior.

This modular, eco-friendly concept allows for flexible locations and opens up new perspectives on nature-oriented travel.

Punta de Mar shows how innovative design, technology and sustainability can come together in harmony to create unique experiences.

Hotel Schani UNO City Vienna: smart & modern

Opened in March 2024, Hotel Schani UNO City in Vienna represents a new era in hospitality, where sustainability and digital innovation take centre stage. In this future-focused hotel, modern technology and individual comfort go hand in hand.

At the heart of the concept is holistic building automation, enabling guests to control their room intuitively via a digital platform. No dedicated app is needed: lighting, blinds and room temperature can all be adjusted directly from a smartphone, allowing for a personalised experience tailored to individual preferences. This forward-thinking approach also enhances the hotel's energy efficiency, with intelligent systems helping to reduce primary energy consumption.

Not only are bookings and billing managed via smartphone: the phone also serves as a key to check in within seconds and to control room functions such as temperature and shading. The intelligent building technology is based on a KNX system, and interface management between the smart tools is powered by Gira.

The aim of this new ecological and economical technical concept is to provide a straightforward room control system, greater energy efficiency and optimised operational performance.

Cuddling up inside or sleeping out in the open? At Droompark De Zanding, a Dutch national park near Otterlo, you’ll get the best of both worlds. The so-called Buitenhuis (which translates to “outdoor house”) combines living in the middle of nature with indoor comfort.

A huge glass facade offers an unobstructed view of the surrounding trees, blurring the lines between inside and outside. The interior has been kept close to nature as well: lots of wood, green plants, and earthy colours. Even the switches and socket outlets on the wall are based on sustainable materials, with linoleum-plywood frames from the Gira Esprit design line. Despite its upscale furnishings, staying at the Buitenhuis is surprisingly affordable:

one week during the off season will only cost you around 600 euros.
