The furniture industry is undergoing a major shift – from fast furniture to high-quality, durable, and eco-friendly interior solutions. Sustainable raw materials from local production and timeless, minimalist designs are back in style. Find out more about natural luxury and how you implement the trend in your home.
What defines natural luxury? First and foremost, the way it is made. These furnishings are produced sustainably and to a high standard of quality. Durability is key – long-lasting design is the ultimate priority.
Natural luxury furniture also stands out because of its distinctive colours and design language with soft edges and flowing transitions. The aesthetic is minimalistic yet never cold or sterile. Instead of glossy, mirror-like surfaces, we see velvety matt finishes, and bold colours are giving way to soft, natural tones.
Organic shapes, functional design, and natural materials also define the latest collection from Danish furniture brand Bolia – where nature takes centre stage. The designers’ goal is to create long-lasting furniture that helps cultivate a calm living environment, offering a retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The modular sofas from the Aya series invite you to relax, seamlessly combining luxurious aesthetics with sustainable craftsmanship.
The Spanish design brand Let’s Pause also embraces luxurious yet natural furnishings. Their charismatic clothing racks, shelves, and stands showcase your entire wardrobe – thanks to a minimalist design crafted from poplar wood and halfa grass.
Our personal highlight: the Vedra hanging shelf. Suspended from the ceiling, it adds elegance and character to the room without overpowering the space.
By incorporating timeless design classics, the natural luxury trend balances a desire for something special with the ideal of understated elegance.
Hans J. Wegner’s CH24 – better known as the Wishbone Chair – is undoubtedly one of the most memorable seating designs of the 20th century. This iconic piece, with its distinctive backrest, has been in production for 70 years and is now manufactured by Carl Hansen & Søn.
The Danish heritage brand, now in its third generation, produces all its furniture by hand. A special edition of the chair is crafted from exclusive, FSC-certified mahogany.
Its seat is made from 120 metres of paper cord, meticulously woven into the frame. With over 100 handcrafted production steps, this ensures the highest quality and exceptional seating comfort.
Wood is one of the most popular materials in natural luxury interiors. As a true cosiness guarantee, it brings warmth into a space and is also a sustainable choice.
The only challenge? In the bathroom, wood has a tough time – since, as we all know, it doesn’t mix well with water. That’s why Finnish company Woodio set out to develop a water-resistant wood-based material.
The result: an entirely new composite made from wood chips – mouldable and highly durable. "Sustainability alone doesn’t sell. People want products that look good," says founder Petro Lahtinen.
And that’s exactly what they get. The material’s distinctive appearance is both modern and aesthetically striking, while its design remains pure and timeless.
Speaking of switches – natural luxury can also create striking accents on your walls. The Gira Esprit linoleum-plywood design line is the perfect choice for interior concepts that emphasise elegant forms and natural materials.
By combining two sustainable materials, this design line impresses with both its aesthetics and its eco-friendly credentials.
Renewable raw materials are a key feature of natural luxury, but many designers are taking sustainability even further – creating recycled furniture from used materials, even waste.
This isn’t just eco-friendly – it can also look surprisingly elegant, as demonstrated by Flemish manufacturer B.I.C. Carpets. Their Haven rug is made from 60% nylon, sourced from old fishing nets and other plastic waste.
The design brothers Fernando and Humberto Campana incorporate everyday objects into their furniture, giving them a second life. Among their many unconventional upcycling creations is the charming Bambu table lamp. With its natural rattan shade and a cream-white lacquered steel base, it creates a cosy atmosphere. The amber-coloured inline switch adds a distinctive accent to the composition.
Sustainable, high-quality furniture is an investment in both our well-being and the future of our planet. Hopefully, natural luxury won’t just remain a trend.
