Q-label for higher quality

Distinguished by the Q-label, the Gira smoke alarm device Basic Q meets the stringent quality criteria of vfdb guideline 14-01 and DIN EN 14604:2009-02. The Q stands for proven durability and the reduction of false alarms with simultaneously increased stability, e.g. against external factors.

Detection of smoke by means of scattered light measurement

The Gira smoke alarm device Dual Q detects smoke accumulation using the principle of photoelectric scattered light measurement with processor-controlled signal evaluation. A light diode in the smoke chamber emits light beams. Entering smoke interrupts these light beams and diverts them to a receiver diode. The alarm is triggered.

Rapid recognition of fire type through heat measurement

The smoke alarm device Dual Q detects the build-up of heat via an additional thermal sensor: In this way, various types of fire such as liquid fires can be registered more rapidly and securely identified. Alarm behaviour can also be better controlled in areas with unavoidable disturbance factors such as kitchen vapours, dust and electrical interference.

Conversion possible for operation via the 230 V mains

The Gira smoke alarm device Dual Q can also be operated and networked with an existing 230 V mains supply. A 230 V base is available for retrofitting the networking capability and supplying power.

Device check without disassembly

The Gira radio diagnosis tool enables Gira Dual Q smoke alarm devices to be checked from the floor or from outside the room, for example from stairways. It consists of the radio diagnosis USB box and the radio diagnosis software in German and English. Data transfer is carried out without removing the device.

Module interface for networking via optional radio module, relay module or KNX module

For even more safety, comfort and efficiency, the functions of the Gira smoke alarm device Dual Q can be expanded through optionally available devices: Networking of up to 40 devices via wire or radio, checking of the functionality from the floor or even from outside the room, integration in the KNX system or connection to external alarm devices.

Battery failure warning (30 days)

The Gira smoke alarm device Dual Q continuously monitors its smoke evaluation and checks the battery voltage. Any faults are indicated by a fault signal (signal tone and LED). The Gira smoke alarm device Dual Q signals that the device will have to be replaced 30 days in advance. The device remains completely functional during this period.

Disassembly safeguard

Thanks to its disassembly safeguard the Gira smoke alarm device Dual Q is also highly suitable for installation in kindergartens, commercial properties, and rental properties. The disassembly safeguard can be optionally activated on the mounting plate. Afterwards only one tool is needed for opening the locking mechanism, for maintenance work for example.

Installation locations

Thanks to its dual technology, the Gira smoke alarm device Dual Q can be installed in any room – even in kitchens and bathrooms. The optical smoke detection using photoelectric scattered light measurement can be switched off for 15 minutes if cooking produces an unusual amount of vapours. The thermal sensors still guarantee reliable fire protection in the room.

Certified safety: Recommendation for the installation of smoke alarm devices

Smoke alarm devices are lifesavers - and must therefore be able to perform their function reliably in case of an emergency. For this reason, you must ensure that they are correctly installed. The installation of smoke alarm devices in accordance with DIN 14676 has required verification of the service providers' expertise for the planning, installation, and maintenance of smoke alarm devices.

Mandatory installation of smoke detectors

600 fire fatalities, approximately 6,000 injuries and 4 billion euros in material damage annually – in light of these figures, it is astonishing that standard regulations for the mandatory installation of smoke detectors are not in force across Germany and Austria. Nevertheless, thirteen German federal states have adopted a mandatory installation of smoke detectors into their state building codes. In Austria, eight federal states enforce the mandatory installation of smoke detectors. This means: At least new and renovated constructions must be equipped with suitable smoke alarm devices in bedrooms, children's rooms, and hallways which serve as rescue routes to the outside. There are various transitional regulations for existing residences. They must then also be equipped accordingly.

Installation instructions

The Gira smoke alarm device has optimum detection characteristics when mounted on the ceiling in the middle of the room. If this is not possible, observe a minimum distance of 50 cm to the wall. A smoke alarm device can monitor a room with a maximum area of 60 m² and a maximum room height of 4.50 m. Where smoke alarm devices should be positioned to guarantee minimum protection varies depending on the design of the house or flat. In single-story flats, the hallway used most frequently in case of fire should be equipped at minimum. In multi-story buildings, the hallways of each story must be included. However, equipping all the rooms is recommended for optimum protection.
