The city blocks in Barcelona's L’Eixample district are perfect squares with large inner courtyards, most of which are built over or developed nowadays. The central part of this district is often referred to as the Golden Square, showcasing the elegance of this part of town. The Passeig de Gràcia avenue leads north, connecting the historic centre with the artist's quarter Gràcia: lined with stylish boutiques and upmarket restaurants. The design hotel Cram is located in the centre of the L’Eixample district.

GCA Architects designed the hotel in 2005, integrating it into a building dating back to 1892. Light is an important design element in the hotel. A cylindrical atrium ensures that natural light reaches all seven floors. This doesn’t mean that it's bright everywhere, however. Quite the contrary, in fact, as light is used in a highly original way, it is always indirect and complements the sombre aesthetics of the building. Muted shades dominate the lobby – dark granite complements the dark wooden floor, black ceilings and textiles.

The hotel is for couples only so there are no single rooms and also no extra beds for children. Shades of red and orange define the 67 hotel rooms, and again illumination plays a remarkable role. Guests are thus able to create their desired ambience, setting the lights towelcome, fiesta, romantic or night light, for example. For the switches, the Gira Standard 55 range was selected, a functional basic range for convenient and economical electrical installation.

The ANEMOS terrace bar is located on the 7th floor, offering fantastic views of the city. Visitors can enjoy delicacies from breakfast until midnight or take a refreshing dip in the pool. Guests preferring extraordinary cuisine should pay the Michelin-starred Angle restaurant a visit and be spoiled by the head chef and his team, while the exclusive ambience of the Mareva cocktail bar is perfect for unwinding at the end of the day.
