Radevormwald/Berlin, March 6, 2018. At the beginning of 2018, after around one year of preparations, Gira Giersiepen GmbH & Co. KG (www.gira.com) launched the start-up initiative "GNERATOR" (www.gnerator.com) with its headquarters in Berlin. "Outside of the Silicon Valley, Berlin is one of the locations currently experiencing a boom of digital information technology start-ups", explains Gira managing director Christian Feltgen. "With 'GNERATOR', we provide young technology companies based there with a platform of their own, providing they are a good fit with Gira. Our aim is to connect innovative start-ups with Gira. That is why we are looking for long-term technology and business partnerships." Matthias Nawrocki, senior technology manager at Gira, is head of the "GNERATOR" programme, which has its office in the co-working community "WeWork". The medium-sized industrial company from the Bergisches Land has already agreed its first collaborative partnership: Gira has bought minority shares in the Berlin-based hardware and software specialists Senic (www.senic.com), founded in 2013.
Radevormwald/Frankfurt, Janurary 15, 2018. Every year, the Frankfurt-based German Design Council honours "innovative top performances from every area of the interior design industry" with its "Iconic Award: Innovative Interior". This year, more than 400 interior design products submitted entries for the prestigious prize. And in this third year of the competition, three prizewinners were provided by Gira Giersiepen GmbH & Co. KG (www.gira.com) from Radevormwald. In the "Building fixtures" category, the international jury singled out both the Gira E2 stainless steel design line and the Gira X1 app for the highest accolade "Best of the Best", which was only awarded to 30 entrants in total. The plastic variant of the Gira E2 design line was honoured as a winner. The prizes will be awarded on 14 January 2018 at the Kölnischer Kunstverein, on the eve of the international furniture trade fair "imm cologne". The winning entries will then be on display in their own exhibition at the museum from 15 to 21 January 2018.
Radevormwald, 2 June 2017. It is considered to be one of the most extraordinary and exciting exhibitions relating to the latest trends in interior design and living. For the "Casa Decor" in Madrid, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, is not a trade fair in the usual sense of the term. In fact, architects and interior designers are taking over a building in the Spanish capital to completely redesign and refurbish it. This year, the "Casa Decor" is a seven-storey Art Nouveau building which was constructed at the beginning of the 20th century in the elegant district of Los Jerónimos. Over an area of 2,800 square metres, renowned Spanish architects and designers in conjunction with companies from the interior design sector show how materials, colours and technologies will influence living in the future.
Radevormwald, 19 May 2017. Work on the new production and logistics centre of Gira Giersiepen GmbH & Co. KG (www.gira.de) in the industrial area of Radevormwald is continuing at full speed. "We are well on schedule so far" confirm the two Gira project managers Dietmar Daszkiewicz and Andreas Dürwald. The more than 20-metre high future high-bay storage facility has had a roof since the end of April, which means that interior construction could be started in the meantime, while the outer walls are being covered with insulating material. In the meantime a date has also been set for the topping out ceremony: The ceremony for those involved in the project and invited guests will take place on 15 September. Occupancy and commissioning of the 30,000 square metre large building complex are scheduled for July 2018.
Flexible space concept, connecting structures
This applies all the more, as the planners at Berlin-based architects Sauerbruch Hutton, the Gira project team led by Andreas Dürwald, Head of Production and Logistics, and Dietmar Daszkiewicz, Head of Facility Management, have designed the new building in such a flexible way as to enable a functionally-independent extension of the Gewerbestrasse site's capacities by up to 50,000 sq.m of gross floor area.
Radevormwald, 29 July 2016. Nowadays it would be described as a technology startup: on 1 August, 111 years ago, the brothers Gustav and Richard Giersiepen decided to establish a factory making equipment for electric lighting in two rented rooms in the Wichlinghausen district of the German town of Wuppertal. This was the start of the Gira brand and of the company now known as Gira Giersiepen GmbH & Co. KG (www.gira.com). The basis for founding the company in the summer of 1905 was the further development of the tumbler switch, which Richard Giersiepen had been granted a patent for in 1903.
