Improved room climate
Those who build today seal and insulate for all it's worth. However, highly dense building shells hardly allow the air in the room to be exchanged naturally. The new Gira KNX/EIB CO2 sensor with integrated humidity and room temperature controller helps here by improving the room climate and protecting the building structure.
Whether in classrooms or conference rooms – where people are plentiful, the CO2 concentration increases quickly. This in turn negatively affects general well-being, especially the ability to concentrate and motivation. The recommended maximum value of 0.1% CO2 concentration in the air in accordance with DIN 1946 is frequently exceeded because of the current building standard. Therefore it is reasonable to have the room climate monitored automatically in such buildings and rooms.
Gira has now launched a KNX/EIB CO2 sensor with integrated humidity and room temperature controller for this purpose. It monitors the quality of the ambient air as well as the temperature and humidity in individual rooms. In addition, it controls various functions which serve to maintain or improve the room climate via the KNX/EIB system. For example, when a defined limit value is exceeded, windows can be opened, fans can be switched on or the heating and air conditioning can be regulated.
In addition, a regular exchange of the air enriched with humidity is necessary, particularly in highly-insulated buildings – this promotes health because it prevents the growth of mould. In the long term, preventing the growth of mould ensures the quality of the building structure. In addition, the combination of certain functions possible via the KNX/EIB system also helps save energy because they can then be used as required. For example, if the Gira KNX/EIB CO2 sensor registers humidity which is too high in a room, the window is automatically opened, which actuates the air exchange. At the same time, heating is adjusted down in order not to heat unnecessarily "out the window".
As the designation reveals, the Gira KNX/EIB CO2 sensor with humidity and room temperature controller unites the functionality of a CO2 sensor with those of a temperature controller with a specified setpoint, a temperature and humidity controller and a KNX/EIB bus coupler in one device. It is the first KNX/EIB CO2 sensor which can be fully integrated in a switch range and installed in a standard flush-mounted box. Power is supplied via a KNX/EIB cable; an additional power supply is not necessary.
The CO2 sensor measures the carbon dioxide concentration in the air in the spectrum from 0 to 2,000 ppm. Independent of the four freely definable limit values, various functions can be controlled via the KNX/EIB system. The limit values of the various sensors can be connected via internal logic gates. Measurement values can be processed further as desired, for example via the Gira HomeServer 3 or Gira FacilityServer.
Through the integrated temperature controller with a specified setpoint, the Gira KNX/EIBCO2 sensor can also be used for the temperature control of individual rooms. The built-in humidity sensor also determines the relative humidity in the measurement range of 10% to 95%. Various functions can also be controlled via the KNX/EIB system here. Because it is also able to combine the current room temperature and the measured humidity, the Gira KNX/EIB CO2 sensor determinesat which temperature the water contained in the air begins to condense on ceilings or walls. If the dewpoint is approached, the Gira KNX/EIB CO2 sensor can control heating or ventilation and send out an alarm message via the KNX/EIB system.
The Gira KNX/EIB CO2 sensor can be used wherever people are plentiful, especially in public and semi-public areas. However, with its versatile other functions, the device can also be used in private areas for the comprehensive monitoring and control of the room climate, for example to prevent the possible growth of mould in bathrooms or winter gardens.
