“Important milestone for competitiveness and sustainability”
New Gira production, development, and logistics centre inaugurated
Radevormwald, 6 October 2018. “Everything on a single level with ideal flow of goods – from incoming goods to assembly to outgoing goods, with very powerful picking-and-packing and warehouse logistics inbetween. And a development centre on a single level on the roof of the assembly area, instead of divided across several floors. What a difference this makes!” At this Saturday's inauguration of Gira's new production, development, and logistics centre, Dirk Giersiepen, the managing partner of Gira Giersiepen GmbH & Co. KG (www.gira.com), couldn't hide his excitement when he summarized the large project to the 1,200 guests. The SME from the Bergisches Land region has invested many tens of millions of euros in the construction of the new building on the greenfield and to equip it with cutting-edge systems technology – the largest investment in the company's 113-year history. Around 550 employees of the building technology specialist will work here from the spring of 2019.

Gira wins German Innovation Award
Radevormwald, 28 August 2018. "The German Innovation Award honours innovations that are not only novel, but demonstrably generate added value for the user. Even when it come to details of an overall solution, the focus must be on radically centring the user, and thereby the human individual." This is how the German Design Council describes the notion of innovation that it has taken as the basis for the German Innovation Award introduced in 2018. 650 products were in contention for this first presentation of the new award. Gira Giersiepen GmbH & Co. KG (www.gira.de) from Radevormwald scored a perfect hat trick, with the independent panel of experts choosing three of the building technology specialist's products as winners: the Gira X1 app, and both the Gira E2 design line's stainless steel variant and plastic variant for flat installation. The Gira solutions had been entered in the "Building & Elements" category of the "Excellence in Business to Business" competition class.

Selective internationalisation as the key to further growth
Gira founds sales companies in the United Kingdom and Spain
Radevormwald/Barcelona/London, 16 May 2018. "Around 90 per cent of the market potential for building automation and smart home technologies is outside Germany. We therefore view the systematic internationalisation of our market development as crucial for the continuation of our growth trajectory," says Thomas Musial, Managing Director responsible for domestic and international sales at Gira Giersiepen GmbH & Co. KG (www.gira.de), which is based in Radevormwald. The foundation of legally and economically autonomous sales companies in the United Kingdom and Spain in early 2018 forms part of the international business expansion strategy of this medium-sized specialist in building technology. If the key domestic German market continues to develop positively, Gira's share of this business should increase to 30 per cent of total sales in the next five years. The technology company, which was founded in 1905, sells its products in 41 countries.

Radevormwald, 19 May 2017. Work on the new production and logistics centre of Gira Giersiepen GmbH & Co. KG (www.gira.de) in the industrial area of Radevormwald is continuing at full speed. "We are well on schedule so far" confirm the two Gira project managers Dietmar Daszkiewicz and Andreas Dürwald. The more than 20-metre high future high-bay storage facility has had a roof since the end of April, which means that interior construction could be started in the meantime, while the outer walls are being covered with insulating material. In the meantime a date has also been set for the topping out ceremony: The ceremony for those involved in the project and invited guests will take place on 15 September. Occupancy and commissioning of the 30,000 square metre large building complex are scheduled for July 2018.

Radevormwald, 2 June 2017. It is considered to be one of the most extraordinary and exciting exhibitions relating to the latest trends in interior design and living. For the "Casa Decor" in Madrid, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, is not a trade fair in the usual sense of the term. In fact, architects and interior designers are taking over a building in the Spanish capital to completely redesign and refurbish it. This year, the "Casa Decor" is a seven-storey Art Nouveau building which was constructed at the beginning of the 20th century in the elegant district of Los Jerónimos. Over an area of 2,800 square metres, renowned Spanish architects and designers in conjunction with companies from the interior design sector show how materials, colours and technologies will influence living in the future.

The company's on-site children's day-care centre opens
Gira is now also a place to play
Germany is investing in childcare. Nevertheless, compared to other European countries, the result is still unsatisfactory - current provisions prevent us from clinching anything better than a mid-table place. In relation to this, the Scandinavian countries are pioneers: they allocate substantial funds to making it easier for mothers to return to work. A basic requirement is a sufficient supply of daycare centres. Now, Gira has constructed its own children's day-care centre on the company's premises. It was inaugurated in September.

111 years of Gira
Transformation and continuity
Radevormwald, 29 July 2016. Nowadays it would be described as a technology startup: on 1 August, 111 years ago, the brothers Gustav and Richard Giersiepen decided to establish a factory making equipment for electric lighting in two rented rooms in the Wichlinghausen district of the German town of Wuppertal. This was the start of the Gira brand and of the company now known as Gira Giersiepen GmbH & Co. KG (www.gira.com). The basis for founding the company in the summer of 1905 was the further development of the tumbler switch, which Richard Giersiepen had been granted a patent for in 1903.
