2000
On-board computer for the home

With the Gira HomeServer, apartments and houses became really smart, as the HomeServer connected the KNX system's electrical installation with the home network and internet. As a result, the various building technology functions could now be controlled safely and conveniently, even when its occupants were on the go. "The Gira HomeServer is like a traditional Swiss army knife," commented its developer Markus Fromm-Wittenberg. "A multi-functional device that I can use for a lot of things, as I have the right tool for each situation: I just need to flip it out." In the early stages of development there was simply a software solution, which was expanded in a second step to include a hardware component: the Gira HomeServer, which the company launched at the Light+Building trade fair in early 2000. "It went down brilliantly" said Mr Fromm-Wittenberg, recalling professional customers' reactions.

2002
Innovation – transparency – communication

Gira’s basic principles, commitment to integration and openness in development are also illustrated in the design of its production building, which was inaugurated in autumn 2002. Designed by architects Ingenhoven Overdiek und Partner, it radiates innovation, transparency and communication. Floor-to-ceiling, horizontally structured steel-and-glass façades give the building a sense of openness and allow the work areas to be naturally lit.
