Pretty special, even by London standards. A new corner building on Chelsea’s high street offers space for eleven extraordinary residential units, in addition to a cinema and three retail units on the ground floor. Luxurious, at the absolute cutting edge, and featuring a spectacular tower building and roof terrace – that’s Essoldo House.
The life blood of the heart: Chelsea, as colourful as it is sophisticated, is one of the British capital’s places-to-be – and King’s Road is its beating heart. The street’s reputation has been forged by world-renowned restaurants and traditional and contemporary art galleries, but it is primarily the studios and shops featuring the hottest designers that have turned it into a magnet for shoppers. On the corner with Old Church Street was an old cinema, which has now given way to a remarkable new building. Designed by Nick Shipp Architects, the largely four-storey building fills a gap in the streetscape, creating a real landmark with its distinctive tower-like bay window. It continues to be home to a small but stylish cinema on the first floor, as well as three retail units on the ground floor.
The eleven residential units consist of three maisonettes and eight single-storey units, ranging from around 70 to 145 m2. They all combine 21st century design and comfort with the character of traditional Chelsea, and all offer at least one balcony or roof terrace with views over the borough – in some cases more. The building has underground parking and, of course, offers a concierge service for residents.
Essoldo House’s absolute commitment to luxury is visible in every detail – solid, high-quality oak floors, Carrara marble in all the bathrooms, and Porcelanosa kitchens, fitted exclusively with the latest generation of Miele appliances, including a wine fridge and boiling water tap. The building services are also state-of-the-art: all functions, from the air conditioning and lighting to the Sonos boxes installed everywhere and the security system, are interconnected and can be controlled using an iPad. A Smart Home in its purest form. Behind the scenes, a Gira KNX system works in concert with Gira X1 and Gira S1 to ensure equally smooth and secure networking and control. The switches and socket outlets of the Gira E2 design line in stainless steel also match the high-quality elegance of the interior in a special building – truly London’s finest.
